If the fashion industry spends its life drawing inspiration from the past and fantasizing about the future to dress the future, knowing how to smell the trends of the future can be a job, without being an exact science. On the one hand, designers are inspired by what surrounds them more or less directly, but also by their personal experiences, to forge their personal tastes, their singular aesthetics, and thus creations imbued with everything that can correspond to the taste of the their time, while being on the front lines. On the other hand, forecasting agencies collect strong and weak signals in all socio-cultural domains in an attempt to detect how trends are evolving and what tomorrow will look like.
But, concretely, how do you breathe the spirit of the times? Can this be learned? How sells how trend forecaster (trend forecaster)? And to what extent, as designers, should we both be sensitive to it, while affirming our creative singularity? Who is Kitesy Martin?
Graduated from the Decorative Arts of Paris, Kitesy Martin she has been a stylist for almost ten years. After going through several houses such as Balenciaga, Balmain, Lacoste or Perrin Paris, he launched his eponymous recycled jewelry brand in 2018. Kitesy Martin is looking for vintage pieces that he disassembles and reassembles to make unique pieces by hand in a logic of economy. He draws inspiration from contemporary art and pop culture to highlight a graphic style that mixes materials, genres and silver with gold. Kitesy Martin is also a creative laboratory with recycled pieces applied to decorations, footwear, leather goods or clothing.
Who is Dina Sultan?
After a career in see detail, Dina Sultan she chose to radically change and realize her dream of working in fashion. In 2012, at the age of 27, she graduated from LISAA (The Higher Institute of Applied Arts) with a master’s degree in fashion design and marketing. In Peclers Paris (a trend, innovation, style and forecasting consultancy agency founded in 1970 by Dominique Peclers), for almost 10 years she has been deciphering aesthetic and socio-cultural trends with experience in sport and the younger generation. She helps brands find their values and their aesthetic language season after season. Engaged, she speaks for the agency on topics related to inclusivity and diversity in fashion.
