Vivian Trimble, keyboardist and vocalist for ’90s rockers Luscious Jackson, died on April 4 of complications from cancer treatment. She was 59.
“We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved friend and bandmate Viv on Tuesday,” the band said in a statement. “We didn’t expect that. She was a good friend and a gifted musician and choreographer, but her greatest joy was being a partner to David and mother to Nate and Rebecca. We are devastated to lose our lovely sister.”
Named after an NBA player who entertained bandmates Jill Cunniff, Gabby Glaser and Trimble, Luscious Jackson was formed in 1991. Trimble appeared on the band’s first two albums in 1994 natural ingredients and that from 1996 Fever in, fever out. Both albums were released by the Beastie Boys on their Grand Royal label.
Trimble left the company before 1999 Electric honey was released and was not part of the band’s 2011 reunion.
Trimble and Cunniff also worked together on the Kostars and released an album in 1996, Classics with “K.”
She also had a duo with the Breeders’ Josephine Wiggs called Dusty Trails, which released a self-titled album in 2000.
Information about survivors or memorial plans was not immediately available.
