These are three small bands who have once again come close to sowing discord in the fashion industry. On March 27, 2023, Adidas asked the US Trademark Office to deny a request from Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation Inc which filed a logo with three yellow stripes. The Argument: Might Mislead the Public, as reported by the Keeper.
Why Adidas wanted to attack Black Lives Matter
Adidas has taken legal action to block a trademark filed by Black Lives Matter for its “Three-Stripe” logo.
According to the court filing filed on March 27, Adidas says the Black Lives Matter stripes are too similar to its own.

Indeed, on some derivative works published by Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation Inc, three yellow stripes are an integral part of the design, as illustrated by trademark agent Josh Gerben about the file, on Twitter the day after it was filed . The expert also believes that the sports equipment manufacturer would have little chance of winning.
So what do you think?
Are Black Lives Matter “stripes” too similar to Adidas “stripes”?

Adidas is known for quite aggressively advocating the use of the three stripes on clothing. The brand has already filed more than 90 lawsuits and signed more than 200 settlements over this use since 2008, including a recent case with designer Thom Browne.
Why Adidas has given up on tackling Black Lives Matter
While Black Lives Matter had until May 6, 2023 to respond, Adidas has already declined to appeal, Agence France Presse reported March 29 rebroadcast by Le Figaro. A spokesperson for the Three Stripes brand said:
“We are preparing to withdraw the opposition to the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation trademark application. »
If the sports equipment manufacturer declined to comment further on its decision, we can clearly assume the fear of a possible backlash in terms of image. Indeed, it might seem very out of place for Adidas to hinder the scarce means of action and remuneration of an association that fights against racism.
