A floating restaurant in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg capsized and sank in an icy river.
The Silver Whale restaurant, located on the Neva River in St. Petersburg was moored, was photographed on site today.
It was “flooded” around 07:30 due to damage caused by the river’s freezing conditions. according to Russian officials.
The local transport authority is now investigating whether health and safety regulations for the allegedly unused vessel were followed.
The boat’s owners initially wanted to moor it on the Moskva River in Moscow, but the project was not agreed upon, so it was moved to Saint Petersburg in 2018.

But the restaurant never opened and was put up for sale in September 2022 for around £372,000, or 35 million roubles.
A Twitter user said: “In St. Petersburg on the Neva, the floating restaurant “Silver Whale” is sinking.
“The owners first wanted to install it on the Moskva River, but they couldn’t, the owner moved it to St. Petersburg and “deposited” it near Babushkin Park. But the facility never opened and was offered for sale for 35 million rubles.”
Another user added: “I remember this thing passing by. But that’s probably for the best part, he looked pretty ugly.”
Meanwhile, another user expressed remorse, adding: “Wow. I admired it all the time. Nice.’
