Paramount+ international rollout could have been faster, says Marco Nobili – Series Mania

Paramount+ is well ahead of its goal of greenlighting 150 non-US originals by 2025, but international boss Marco Nobili wishes the streamer could have rolled out sooner.

Speaking to Series Mania this afternoon, Nobili said “if I could have accelerated our launch, I would have” when asked how he would have done things differently in the past two years.

“But you have to balance these things,” he countered. “Sometimes a shaky start turns out to be the right recipe. If you show the audience the window, you can go straight out the gate, but that can come at the expense of the quality of the show.”

Nobili added, “We might have done an even faster deployment, but looking back, it was a challenge and we’re proud of how it turned out.”

Paramount+, now live in dozens of territories around the world, is well ahead of its goal of greenlitting 150 originals by 2025, Nobili revealed. He said half of Paramount+’s projected 8% growth over the next five years will come from the international market.

Nobili, EVP and International General Manager of Paramount+, pointed to British-German co-productions The chemistry of deaththriller The blue and Australian hit last king of the cross, which emerged earlier this week as Deadline Global Breakout. Meanwhile, Paramount’s international deal with Korean powerhouse CJ ENM is starting to pay off, and the Korean series is starting to pay off There will be launched in various areas of the platform next month.

“Our international content is ready to step in and feed the service when less is coming to the American side,” he added, though he’s not concerned about the impact of the looming writers’ strike on the Paramount pipeline.

“There’s so much content coming in that we really have to prioritize what we give to the market.”

He pushed the potential for international franchises in the same direction as that yellowstone And 1923 Franchise.

“A prequel could strengthen something for a potential franchise,” he added. “It doesn’t have to be just Taylor Sheridan. You can do it locally, as well as a script and an unscript.

He was speaking when Paramount+ unveiled an Italian version of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
