YouTube restores Donald Trump’s account

YouTube has restored Donald Trump’s account, joining other tech platforms to lift restrictions in place after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

Leslie Miller, YouTube’s vice president of public policy, said in a statement that Donald J. Trump’s channel “is no longer restricted and the ability to upload new content has been restored.”

“We carefully assessed the ongoing risk of real-world violence and balanced that against the importance of giving voters an opportunity to hear equally from key presidential candidates before an election,” Miller said. “This channel remains subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube.”

Last month, Meta said it would restore Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram. After buying Twitter, Elon Musk reinstated Trump on the platform, but the former president has yet to return and continues to post on his own social media platform, Truth Social.

After January 6, YouTube suspended Trump’s account, citing “continued potential for violence.”

Axios first reported on Trump’s account recovery.
