Niall Horan gave a flawless performance as part of the White House’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations, admitting to the crowd of dignitaries that he was nervous and “I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared”.
But Horan, the former One Direction Irishman, gave a flawless performance in the East Room to an audience that included President Joe Biden, the Taoiseach – Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chris Coons ( D – THE ). “You certainly didn’t seem nervous to me,” Biden told him afterward, telling him he was “welcome anytime” in the White House.
Before his set, Horan joked to the audience, “If you know the words, sing along. If you don’t, don’t try.”
Biden and Varadkar each spoke about US-Ireland cooperation.
Varadkar joked that US presidents tend to drink a little Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, but said Biden is “undeniably a son of Ireland.”
The event included the presentation of the piano bowl, a tradition dating back more than 70 years.
Biden and Varadkar also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
