Ticketmaster is offering partial refunds on tickets for The Cure Tour

After several days of complaints about outrageous fees for The Cure’s $20 tickets – including complaints from frontman Robert Smith – a report suggests that Ticketmaster will refund a portion of its fees.

Rolling stone is reporting tonight that Ticketmaster is offering a discount on its fares that more than doubles the price of a ticket to The Cure.

“After further discussion, Ticketmaster agrees that many of the fees charged are excessively high, and as a gesture of goodwill, Ticketmaster has offered all verified fan accounts a $10 per ticket refund for transactions with the lowest ticket price.” Schmidt tweeted.

“And a refund of $5 per ticket to all verified fan accounts for all other ticket price transactions for all Cure shows in all locations,” he added. “If you have already bought a ticket, you automatically get your money back; All tickets sold tomorrow have a lower price.

In a fan screenshot widely circulated online, a purchase of four tickets for $20 had an $11.65 service fee for each ticket, an additional $10 setup fee per ticket, and then a $5.50 order processing fee. This resulted in a total of $172.10 across four $20 tickets sold for $80.

The Cure has been proactive in trying to cut costs for its fans. It dispensed with the so-called “dynamic pricing plan”, which raises the ticket price based on demand.

Ticketmaster has been embroiled in controversy for decades over what many fans believe are exorbitant fees.

The Cure can control the price of its tickets, but not the additional costs. Her Shows of a Lost World tour includes a three-night stop at the Hollywood Bowl from May 23-25.
