Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will lead an event on Tuesday presented by the Motion Picture Association and Starz focusing on female leaders in entertainment and government.
Emhoff will be the keynote speaker at the event, which is part of Starz’s #TakeTheLead Transparency Talks program. Emhoff previously organized round tables with women and young girls around the world. Topics included equality in the workplace, equal pay and protection of reproductive rights and health care.
The event at the MPA headquarters in Washington takes place the day before International Women’s Day and during Women’s History Month.
Karyn Temple, MPA Senior Vice President and General Counsel, and Alison Hoffman, President of Domestic Networks for Starz, will also speak at the event.
Starz’s Transparency Talks brings together leaders to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion. The #TakeTheLead initiative aims to empower stories by and about women and underrepresented communities. Starz is also pushing for a convention resolution to make September National Leading Entertainment and Arts through Diversity Month (LEAD).
Emhoff focused on gender equality issues. His appearances include a listening session in St. Louis on Equal Pay Day in 2021 and, more recently, remarks last month at a Department of Labor ceremony celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Before Kamala Harris was elected vice president, Emhoff was an attorney in Los Angeles specializing in entertainment and intellectual property. He is now a respected visitor to the Georgetown Law Firm.
