Bill Maher predicts Joe Biden will beat Donald Trump in Match Up 2024; HBO host takes center stage as CNN launches new 9pm strategy

“If it’s Biden against Trump, Biden will win — that’s a good bet,” Bill Maher told Jake Tapper on CNN tonight about a potential showdown between the 2020 rivals in 2024.

“I think he’s done a good job … overall he’s restored normalcy,” he said Real Time with Bill Maher host said the 46the POTUS in the first issue of the CNN prime time on Tuesday. “I don’t care at all that he’s 82, 84, 86,” Maher added, taking on one of Joe Biden’s main criticisms. “We have an important decision to make, go to the elderly,” the comedian continued, in a swipe at a society that doesn’t value the elderly — although Maher acknowledged that Biden wasn’t “James Brown at the Apollo ‘ wasn’t.

The sometimes recalcitrant comedian noted that 76-year-old Donald Trump has a good chance of returning to the White House unless 80-year-old Biden tops the Democrats’ 24-ticket ticket.

In CNN CEO Chris Licht’s latest effort to rebrand cable news, Maher’s appearance marks the beginning of a new version of Fox News’ Sean Hannity’s 9 p.m. dominance. It pretty much kept the corporate cousin Maher on the job that fans of HBO’s Real Time hear about week in and week out. Maher took mostly softballs and unleashed his greatest hits on Trump, Biden, the pandemic, organized religion, the culture wars, “wokeism” and weed.

In that regard, Maher Tonight told Tapper that the secret to his decades-long success is simple: “People are looking for something that’s not crooked.”

“As in life, you don’t always agree with your friends on everything.”

In his interview, Maher, who warned of the threat comedians face from the “cancellation culture,” also told Tapper, “It makes me laugh when people say to me, ‘You know, you’re permanent. ‘ Are you playing? I could be canceled in two seconds. Anyone could do that.”

On more than one occasion, Maher’s conversation with the disarmingly friendly person turned into a defensive stance on issues like trans rights. Responsible Frontman got off to a relatively mellow start, as CNN seems to pack the 9pm hour with a mix of big names and special events, rather than hosting five nights a week. Instead, personalities would appear once a week or as specials, according to sources. In search of viewers and at the dictation of various voices, both Republican and non-Republican, approved by David Zaslav, the network founded by Ted Turner cast a wide web of prospects outside the news.

According to an interview with no concrete plans have been announced The New York Post Last week, Charles Barkley said that “they’re trying to get Gayle King and I together,” confirming an earlier post in Puck about the network’s interest. He made it clear that it will not be a daily show while King is under contract with CBS.

Maher, meanwhile, has already been hired to fill portions of CNN’s late-night hours like his overtime in real timean extension of his HBO series, airs on the network on Friday nights.

As for the new 9 p.m., Sara Sidner will host on Thursday CNN Primetime: Jill Biden Abroad, featuring Arlette Saenz’s sit-down with the First Lady on her recent trip to Africa. On March 3, Erin Burnett talks to Dasha Navalnaya, daughter of imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny CNN Primetime: Navalny and the cost of taking on Putin. Among other guests for a critical look at the Russian president, the longtime CNN anchor will also interview Daniel Roher, the director of the Oscar-nominated Navalny Documentary.

It’s week 1.
