Since the beginning of November, hundreds of 10-year-old students in the city of Qom have been victims of intentional respiratory poisoning. Suffering from nausea, malaise and sore throat, some were hospitalized. Faced with the extent of the phenomenon, the parents of the victims met on February 14 to ask for an investigation to be opened and to receive explanations. The government told them the intelligence and education ministries were working together to identify the source of the poisonings.

These intimidating maneuvers have unfortunately had the desired effect by dissuading many parents from sending their daughters to school. The attacks come after several months of riots against Ebrahim Raïsi’s regime. As Iranian women boldly assert their right to freedom, their attackers will do anything to assert their dominance.
