Transgender twins and models Madelyn and Margo Whitley score Fashion Week

Since starting their modeling career in September 2020, transgender twins Madelyn and Margo Whitley have been on the runway and want to use their growing popularity on TikTok to drive greater diversity and inclusion in fashion.

Are they twin sisters, born under the sign of trans identity? Madelyn and Margo Whitley are both transgender women who have caught the attention of the fashion industry. At 22, they’re establishing themselves as the casting sensation of this one fashion month (these are the autumn-winter 2023-2024 collections that are on show in this month of February 2023).

The twin and transgender models Madelyn and Margo Whitley, new faces of this fashion week

If fashion fans sometimes felt like they were seeing double during this series of fashion weeks From the big four (New York, London, Milan, then Paris), it’s because Madelyn and Margo Whitley both worked for some designers: Rodarte, Dion Lee, Adeam, LaQuan Smith or even David Koma.

Otherwise, Madelyn has also walked without her twin for Alexander Wang, Puppets and Puppets, Helmut Lang, Foo and Foo, Luis De Javier, Yuhan Wang and GCDS. And Margo without her sister for Jason Wu, Erdem and Del Core. But they could very well follow other shows for the couple or separately, in Milan or Paris.

Plus, maybe you’ve seen their faces before on TikTok where they have nearly 433,000 subscribers in total (283,000 for Madelyn, 150,000 for Margo). On the Chinese social network they clearly play on their accomplice twinning to gain virality, which the fashion industry in turn loves to exploit.

Where did Madelyn and Margo Whitley come from, the transgender twins who started modeling

Aware of being recruited in part due to their dual characteristics of being both twins and trans, the two sisters wish to work for greater diversity, but above all inclusion in the sector. Recently interviewed by the British media The independentMadelyn and Margo Whitley explained it this way:

“All the other trans people we know in the fashion world are white, hefty, thin, cisgender women. [c’est-à-dire qu’elles peuvent facilement passer pour des personnes cisgenres, ndlr]. There is still so much to do. »

They have already come a long way. These 22-year-old sisters grew up in a very conservative suburb of Houston, Texas. Maddie came out to be trans within her family at age 13 and Margo at 14, before coming out more widely at 16, supported by her mother. They got off to a good start to their modeling career by walking exclusively for the Burberry Spring-Summer 2021 show (around Riccardo Tisci) in September 2020, in the midst of the Covid pandemic for Europe.

And it is precisely because Madelyn and Margo Whitley were bored like many people due to the lockdowns and health restrictions that they started creating content on TikTok and gaining popularity. And given their success this fashion month, the twins seem on course to stand out (from each other and from fashion fans) for a long time to come.
