Penn Badgley has stated that his relationship with Blake Lively “saved” him in many ways.
In an interview with Variety, the actor spoke candidly about a dark period in his life after his role as Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl and how his relationship with Blake Lively kept him from getting stuck in substance abuse.
While the series was a huge success for Badgley, she admitted she was “not involved” in the role and “didn’t want to be on TV”. Penn described the time as “fun and fast” with “dark undertones that would hit rock bottom when I was in my 20s”.
“Honestly, I have never suffered from substances. “Blake didn’t drink, and I think our relationship, in a way, saved me from having to go down this road.”
The couple dated for three years, from 2007 to 2010. After their breakup, there were rumors that Penn could no longer stay in Lively’s shadow. “Gossip” fame has come.
