Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who won one of the most controversial Senate races last year, has been hospitalized for treatment for clinical depression.
His chief of staff, Adam Jentleson, said in a statement that Fetterman reported to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Wednesday evening. “Although John had occasional bouts of depression throughout his life, it only became severe in the last few weeks,” Jentleson said.
He said Fetterman was evaluated by Congressional attending physician Brian Monahan, who recommended inpatient treatment.
“After examining John, Walter Reed’s doctors told us that John is getting the care he needs and that he will be well soon,” Jentleson said.
Fetterman was admitted to George Washington University Hospital last week after feeling light-headed during a Democracy event. Doctors then ran tests to determine if he had suffered a stroke, but there was no evidence, a spokesman said. Fetterman suffered a stroke in the middle of the Senate campaign last year, and while he is recovering, his speech is slurred. He won the race against the Republican Mehmet Oz, aka dr. Oz and allowed the Democrats to win a seat in the Senate.
