“I think society has changed so much and the film industry follows that change. I think many films that I myself have seen or made would not have found a platform a few years ago, for example films about abuse of power and films about sexuality,” she said. “I feel like there’s been a lot of openness in the film industry for new themes in the last few years, so it’s actually a really good starting point for a young filmmaker in the industry.”
For Urzendowsky, she is also encouraged by the openness of the German market and hopes it will get her involved in more projects that can have a greater social impact.
“I think it’s important for me to see films, but also to be part of films that leave a lasting impression on the viewer, because through films, whether good fiction or documentaries, I really see the opportunity or power, our behavior to change or the way we think,” she said. “That’s why I think art is such a platform to create lasting, systemic change.”
Memari, whose company Telescope Animation uses real-time animation produced by Unreal Engine, shed light on the experience and how the rendering engine is boosting the animation industry and increasing the quality of animated films.
“We can do much more with our time than we used to,” he says, referring to the technology. “We’re raising the quality.”
