Sony and Spider-Man makers have made it clear that they expect Watts to continue the series by merging with Holland and Zendaya. Watts hasn’t officially left this series, but it looks like he’d be on his way if he had left.
Watts has another strong project that could be his next director. In September of last year, Apple Studios won a quick auction for the eponymous film written by Watts and directed by George Clooney and Brad Pitt as rival “fixers” hired for the same job at the same time. The deal for this movie requires Apple to deliver a strong theatrical release before the movie arrives on Apple TV+. Watts produced the film with Clooney’s Smokehouse Pictures and Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.
