Oscar nominated No news from the western front Director Edward Berger formed a production company and signed a first-look deal with Fremantle.
Berger spent nine hours with partner Luke Rivett (the morning person) and producer Jeanne Tremsal (Goodbye dad, see you in hell) and the indie will do global TV and film projects.
Fremantle will host Nine Hours’ TV projects for the next two years and will also get second-look access to Berger’s new film pipeline.
Berger has nine Oscar nominations behind him for the acclaimed Netflix adaptation No news from the western front , which also garnered a record 14 BAFTA nominations. Other high profile loans include Patrick Melrose, Honorable, The Terror And Germany 83the last of which he did with Fremantle.
“Great drama comes from filmmakers who have an undeniable drive to tell their story,” Berger said. “We aim to find and nurture these filmmakers in their efforts to bring their informed, intelligent and cinematic vision to the screen. For this dream we could not have found a more exciting partner than Fremantle.”
Fremantle CEO Global Drama Christian Vesper said the outfit had “admired Berger’s talent and creative vision” since working together. Germany 83.
The move is the latest high-profile talent deal signed by Fremantle, which also has links to Angelina Jolie, the Larrain Brothers and Sinestra’s Johan Renck & Michael Parets. The company also owns a plethora of written indies including normal people Producers Element Pictures and Italian indie Lux Vide.
The Berger partnership was led by Vesper and Seb Shorr, Executive Vice President, Commercial and Business Affairs. Lorenzo De Maio assisted in the transaction. Berger is represented by Range Media Partners, Casarotto Ramsay & Associates Ltd and Creative Artists Agency.
