As Avatar: The Way of Water continues to dominate the global box office (currently the fourth highest-grossing film of all time at $2.13 billion), the future of James Cameron’s franchise is getting clearer. Cameron has already filmed the third Avatar and parts of the fourth Avatar, and the second one has performed so well that the fifth Avatar is likely to go ahead as well.
Avatar producer Jon Landau shared some new details about what fans can expect from the next three sequels in a new interview with Empire magazine. Prior to that, Cameron had said that the third installment would introduce the more hostile Na’vi race. Landau said this group is the “Ash People”, which the Empire describes as an “aggressive, volcanic race” of the Varang-led Na’vi. She will be played by Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter, Oona Chaplin.

The interview also revealed that Avatar 4 will make a “huge time leap”, which will lead to Avatar 5 and a partial story on Earth.
What exactly will the Earth look like in the world of Avatar? Fans know the planet is dying, so the Resource Development Authority (RDA) came to Pandora to create a new sustainable planet for humans. Landau told Empire that in the film, “overpopulation and the depletion of our natural resources are making life on Earth difficult.” “But we don’t want to paint a bleak picture of where our world is going. The movies are also about the idea that we can change course.”
