A couple who left their baby at the check-in desk at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport before trying to board a flight to Brussels have been arrested by police.
The couple arrived at Tel Aviv airport on Tuesday with Belgian passports and tickets for a Ryanair flight to the Belgian capital, but did not have a boarding pass for their child.
When the airport staff informed that they could not board without purchasing a separate ticket, they simply left the child in the stroller at the check-in desk and went to the security terminal.
Shocking video footage showed stunned airport staff spotting the lone pram and pulling back a blanket, revealing the abandoned baby underneath.
At first it looked like someone had left a stroller at the check-in counter

But airport staff pulled back a blanket to reveal a baby had been left behind by parents trying to get through security
In the clip, an employee pulls off a cover draped over the stroller, which was parked on a conveyor belt at the check-in desk.
Screams of surprise are heard when staff discover a baby has been left alone in a pram with no parents in sight.
Security screening staff refused to let the couple through, forcing them to return to pick up the child before calling the police, who came to Terminal 1 and promptly arrested them.
The couple was taken in for questioning.
The Ryanair counter manager told the Jerusalem Post: “We have never seen anything like this. We couldn’t believe what we saw.’
According to Ryanair, people traveling with a baby can either pay around £25 for a lap seat or buy a separate seat for the child at the standard adult price.

The Israel Airports Authority also issued a statement explaining that the couple were late for their flight and left the baby at the check-in counter in order to get through security in time.
A couple with Belgian passports arrived at Terminal 1 for a Ryanair flight without a ticket for the baby.
The couple was also late for the flight after flight check-in counters closed.
“They left the baby and went through security in Terminal 1 to get to the departure gate.
A ground crew foreman took the couple back to the flight counters to pick up the baby and called the police and a security guard.

The shocking incident came just a month after Mauritius airport officials found a newborn boy abandoned in an airplane toilet bowl on New Year’s Day.
Officials spotted the newborn baby on board an Air Mauritius plane during a routine customs inspection after the plane landed Mauritius on January 1.
The baby was born on the flight from Madagascar but was not spotted until the plane landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in the capital of Mauritius, Port Louis.
A 20-year-old woman arrested in connection with the discovery initially denied being the child’s mother, but a medical examination confirmed she had recently given birth.
The newborn was taken to hospital for treatment and is believed to be doing well.
