Back then, brave male lions had to cross a swollen river in Kenya before they could dry themselves in the sun with their mother.

The brave youngsters lined the waters of the Olare Motorogi Conservation Area this month.

Due to storms, the Ntiakntiak River in the reserve next to the Masai Mara was much fuller than usual.

The mother and her cubs were spotted at dawn after killing a warthog.

The mother drank from the river and then jumped to the north bank while the cubs waited several minutes while the mother watched them in horror.

You can see them grunt before they jump into the water and struggle to reach the other side.

They finally succeeded and shook each other off before joining their mother for sun care and going to sleep soon after.

This month, naturalist guide and conservationist Paul Goldstein spotted brave youngsters standing by the waters in the Masai Mara National Reserve.
