Adam Schiff is running for the US Senate

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has entered the US Senate race in what appears to be a hotly contested partisan battle in California, with Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) waiting not to run for another term not.

“Our democracy is in great danger. Because GOP leaders care more about power than anything else,” Schiff said in a Twitter post. “And because our economy isn’t working for millions of hardworking Americans.”

Schiff joins Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) in the race, while Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) also plans to run. Feinstein has not said what her plans are, but she is not expected to be in the race.

All candidates are expected to court Hollywood donors and use old connections from their congressional campaigns. Schiff, whose district includes areas of Burbank, Hollywood and West Hollywood, won a national platform for his role on the January 6 Committee and House Intelligence Committee during the Trump investigation. New House Speaker Kevin McCarthy stripped Schiff of his position on the intelligence committee this week, in what Schiff said was retaliation for leading Trump’s impeachment.

Porter, who announced her campaign earlier this month, took office in 2019 and quickly gained a reputation for asking tough questions at congressional hearings, often with a whiteboard. This made her a forward-thinking star as she targeted Wall Street officials and corporate CEOs.

Meanwhile, the race for Schiff’s seat is expected to draw a crowded field. Former Boy Meets World star Ben Savage has already announced a run.

There is more to come.
