EXCLUSIVE: Scott Free Productions recently signed a two-year extension for Justin Alvarado Brown to serve as the company’s president and chief operating officer through 2024. Brown will continue to oversee all film and television transactions and operations for the company, as well as direct strategic planning, assume primary responsibility for P&L, and all business and legal affairs for the company’s US and UK offices.

“Justin has proven to be a dedicated senior executive and COO who brings a strategic perspective to maximize our business opportunities during these volatile times,” said Ridley Scott. “Justin is always able to elegantly negotiate the most complex deals and this makes him a real asset to Scott Free. We are delighted that he will continue to be a part of Scott Free.”

In more than a decade at the manufacturing facility founded by Scott and his late brother Tony Scott, Brown has led the company through an unprecedented period of growth and success, including working closely with former Managing Director and Chief Creative Officer David Zucker to turn the TV group into a global independent studio/production company producing productions such as Raised by wolves (HBO Max), Great expectations (F/X, BBC) and coming soon spring chassis (Appeal).

In addition to Scott’s and Company’s film and television deal negotiations, including current first-look partnerships with Disney/Fox and Apple; Brown directs the company to decide when to use available funds to acquire underlying intellectual property and develop scripts, and has also secured equity and debt on numerous independent films (most recently Jordan Scott’s Berlin no one).

Brown has been with the company for 12 years, starting in 2010 as SVP and Head of Business Affairs (after serving in the same role at Overture Films) before quickly rising to COO and eventually becoming President in 2020.

Brown also serves on Scott Free’s board of directors and has led the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and mentoring programs. Brown Executive Produced the upcoming documentary series, Morgan is still missingPremiering on ABC/Hulu in the first quarter of 2023 and co-producer of Michael Rapaport’s 2010 doc. Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Journeys of a Tribe Called Quest. Previous positions include business and legal affairs at HBO and MGM/United Artists.

Scott Free’s upcoming roster includes: Napoleon directed by Ridley Scott and starring Joaquin Phoenix as French General and Emperor Napoleon; Boston strangler with Keira Knightley; First climb directed by Jake Scott, filmed on Hulu and starring Daisy Ridley; no one a thriller starring Eric Bana and Sadie Sink and directed by Jordan Scott; a new movie in the alien Franchise directed by Fede Alvarez.
