Air defenses have been deployed near Vladimir Putin’s forest palace days after missiles were fired from his official residence near Moscow, the latest sign that the Russian leader fears a direct attack from Ukraine.
A Pantsir-S1 defense system was deployed near the Valdai presidential palace in Yascherovo, a town halfway between Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
Similar systems were erected last week near Putin’s official residence in Novo-Ogarevo, believed to protect him from Ukrainian drones or missiles.
Russia, fearing a full-scale attack on the capital, also deployed Pantsir-S1 and S-400 “Triumf” air defense systems throughout Moscow.

It comes after two suspected Ukrainian drone strikes in December on two air bases deep in Russia that damaged two nuclear bombers believed to be attacking Ukraine.
According to the Russian media agency Agentstvo Novosti, in the recent deployment, Russia deployed a Pantsir-S1 defense system near Putin’s Valdai Palace to “protect” him and his family from long-range Ukrainian attacks.
Putin’s mistress Alina Kabaeva (39) prefers the opulent retreat in Valdai in the Novgorod region. He and Kabaeva are said to have a young family, which has never been seen for reasons of secrecy.
Three military personnel are constantly in the vicinity of the system, which has a rotating radar antenna, the report said.
Similar systems were installed last week ten kilometers from Putin’s official residence on the outskirts of Moscow and in prime locations in the city center.
“These air defense systems protect President Vladimir Putin and his family against a possible Ukrainian attack,” the report said.
“This conclusion can be drawn after the air defense system appeared near the Valdai presidential residence.
“There’s just no refuge there other than home.”
The Pantsir system is designed to protect government and industrial facilities from aircraft, helicopters, precision munitions, cruise missiles and military drones.
The rocket launchers also appeared on the roof of the Russian Defense Ministry’s National Defense Management Center on Frunzenskaya Embankment, the command center of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

A video showed the same powerful system being lifted onto a roof on Teterinsky Avenue in the Taganka district, one and a half kilometers from the Kremlin.
The pro-Russian Telegram channel Military Informant said the operation was an acknowledgment that Moscow, with a population of 12 million, was now vulnerable and meant that “the military fears a possible attack”.

It is not known whether Putin’s Valday Palace has underground bunkers.
But it does have a three-story spa complex with a “personal beauty salon” nicknamed “the temple of his asceticism.”
Hidden underground are two floors of a cryochamber for extreme cold therapy and a mud bath in a 7,000-square-foot recreation facility.
The spa also has massage pools and a 25-metre swimming pool surrounded by hot tubs, as well as saunas, a Turkish bath and a stage for Thai massages.
The lakeside property also includes a riding school, golf course, mini golf course, VIP restaurant with cinema, bowling alley, billiards room and even a mini casino.
The complex has been called Putin’s “most secret official home”.
The house is close to important Orthodox churches that Putin is believed to have visited in times of crisis during his 23 years as president or prime minister.
Putin also has a separate £1billion palace on a Black Sea cliff with a vineyard and a “striptease” room with a stage and artists’ bar.
Rumors have it that Putin and his young family of former Olympic gymnast Kabaeva are now mostly housed in one of the many secret bunker complexes.

The children have not been introduced to the Russian people and Putin has never confirmed his relationship with Kabaeva.
Ukraine is believed to be trying to extend its reach into Russia with missiles and drones. According to a report, the Sokol-300 Punisher drone can hit targets deep in Russia at a distance of up to 2,050 miles.
It has a payload of 300 kg and can carry guided missiles.
So far, Kyiv has hit regions bordering its territory, but has only carried out limited airstrikes against Russia, although multiple explosions and fires at power plants and shopping malls could mean Ukraine has sabotage capabilities.
Two suspected Ukrainian drone strikes hit air bases in Saratov and Ryazan in December.
The English-2 air base near Saratov was hit by an explosion in December, damaging two Tu-95 bombers – planes used for airstrikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.
The base is approximately 700 kilometers from Ukraine.
Another explosion at the Dyagilevo military base near Ryazan, about 750 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, killed three people after a tanker exploded.
Despite several Russian attacks on Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, Moscow has not yet been hit.
