SAG-AFTRA releases “Not Work Notification” for “Fast Charlie,” James Caan’s final film

SAG-AFTRA has informed its members that they cannot work on a hitman thriller Quick Charlie because the film’s producers “violated the SAG-AFTRA Agreement for Independent Film Producers.” The film, directed by Phillip Noyce, stars Pierce Brosnan and James Caan in his last film role. Caan died in July.

The Guild’s “Do Not Work Notice” is unusual because production on the film has already been completed in New Orleans, although there may still be post-production voice-over work or loops, which SAG-AFTRA members are now prohibited from to do. Quick Charlie will be released this year via Screen Media.

“SAG-AFTRA members are hereby directed to withhold acting services or providing covered work for this union production until further notice,” SAG-AFTRA told members. “Attention, accept work or provide services Quick Charlie may be considered a violation of Global Rule One. Violation of this order may result in disciplinary action in terms of the SAG-AFTRA regulations.”

The union’s Global Rule One, which requires members to work only for signatory companies, states: “No member may provide services, or enter into an agreement to provide services, to an employer that does not have a minimum basic agreement with the union entered into, ie in full force in all jurisdictions where a national SAG-AFTRA Collective Bargaining Agreement is in force.

Deadline has reached out to the film’s producers, but has yet to receive a response.
