Watch a passenger plane burst into flames when a portable charger catches fire, filling a Singapore flight with smoke and injuring two people

Two passengers on board a flight to Singapore were injured when a portable charger caught fire as the plane prepared for take-off yesterday.

Disturbing footage captured from an unnamed passenger’s phone and shared on social media shows flight attendants trying to calm distressed people as the fire and smoke begin to cause panic.

The fire started when a power bank spontaneously ignited and quickly filled the air with smoke, forcing all 189 passengers and crew to evacuate the plane, which took off from Taoyuan International Airport at around 19:35 local time. took off in Taiwan.

Two people on board flight TR993 suffered minor burns, but all other passengers were evacuated unharmed.

One of the victims was the owner of the rechargeable power bank, which exploded when it overheated and started a fire.

The other injured person was believed to be his companion.

Passengers described seeing bright orange flames in row 16, where the couple were sitting, forcing the pilots to abort takeoff.

Both burn victims underwent medical examinations after the evacuation, which determined they did not require hospital treatment and were cleared to travel.

The plane, which was able to return safely to the gate after the fire was extinguished, underwent the necessary inspections and resumed later that evening.

According to a statement from the airline Scoot, further investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The statement added: “Scoot sincerely apologizes for the incident. The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority.”

The cabin crew remained calm and professional throughout, directing people away from the fire while other attendants found the extinguisher.

Meanwhile, passenger Angie Ton told Channel News Asia that Scoot’s stewards deserve credit for handling the dangerous situation in such a professional manner.

“Thank you to those flight attendants who know exactly what to do,” she said.

“They deserve recognition for their training, hard work and calm demeanor.”

The flight attendants first told passengers to walk away from the fire and calm down while they led people away from the fire.

Another flight attendant then brought a fire extinguisher and the fire was extinguished according to Ms. Ton extinguished within three minutes.

By now the cabin was full of smoke, but the crew turned on fans and the smog cleared quickly before evacuations began.
