Everyone knows that the difference between the two is the privacy of the stands, in the case of Seville most stands are private and you have to be invited to attend, but there are more and more public stands where you can also live this experience while that of Jerez is fully public.
I mostly go to the one in Seville mostly? because I had the chance to attend when I was in college and, so far, if we add to this my enthusiasm for flamenco and dedication to its aesthetic, for me it is the authentic “the place to be”. I’ve been to Jerez less often, only once and I loved it, but I recognize that I have to work harder to like Seville on a certain level.
I want to tell you some things, my routine every year at the fair and give you some tips to get the perfect look.
I usually organize myself to go during the week, Monday to Wednesday, as the funfair is not as crowded and it is much more comfortable to move around easily and meet different groups of friends, the funfair is just as lively, there is no slow day .
We usually arrive on Monday around noon or after lunch, we check in at the hotel and I gently brush myself, essential coffee in the center to replenish the energy needed to come to Seville and the preparations, we arrive in the afternoon at the funfair around 7pm walk, photos and straight to the rebujito, that evening we had dinner there and as long as the body can tolerate it but without going overboard.
Despite the fact that 95% of the girls at the Seville Fair are dressed as flamenco, that first day I usually go for a flamenco inspired look, a piece from my collections that can represent an Andalusian look, but I usually wear a traditional dress , for example trousers with a bolero, a cape, a cocktail dress with ruffles, embroidery, dots or fringes, luckily my wardrobe is full of these kinds of pieces; a good make-up “yourself” and that’s all! Ohh and I can complement myself with a floral headdress or a dainty piece from my friend @calabylilian.
The second day we woke up not to miss the hotel breakfast, I’m the typical one who always arrives when they’re removing the food and I throw myself over in the coffee. After that breakfast, we started producing the look, for which I sometimes rely on my friend Quino Amador (@quinoamador) to dissolve my makeup.
Every year I usually wear a new dress, which I always finish the day before because I leave it for the last on the list of my clients, I always say “this year I’m not going to make a dress” but then can on the last minute inspiration take over and finally I do miracles of the evening…
To design it, I usually take inspiration and take references from the current collection, the latter presented in Beatriz Peñalver. I like to experiment with silhouettes, so every time I choose a different but always flattering cut. As far as accessories go, these days I usually resort to traditional tools such as manila shawls, vintage gold jewelry and family heritage stones or a piece of headgear bought over the years from the mythical “Antonio García” shop (Seville).
Once we are dressed and after making my companions dizzy with “pictures here, pictures there” we get into the horse-drawn carriage that takes us to the fair, this is one of the great moments for me because I see Seville participating from this perspective to such a parade of horse carriages going to the cover is very exciting, I can’t stop looking at every detail and every outfit.
When we arrive at the fair we usually go to booths to which we have an invitation and once there the plans come to you, the booths are usually quite cozy because of their not very big size and the music is pure flamenco, I’ve never been been to a caseta without flamenco or live music, everything is very authentic and the Sevillians are great hosts ?†
Meeting someone is an impossible mission because the location is so big that it is impossible to walk without stopping or entertaining, in the end we go to relax so let’s go slow ourselves, you can meet a friend and never see each other, it would be normal.
The third day we no longer go to the fair although not for lack of desire, normally we wake up a bit more tired because we gave everything the day before and just when we checked out we went to the plan of plans called “Aire de Seville” (@airencientbaths_es), some well-known Arab baths in the most advanced cities in the world, but original from Seville, where you can enjoy several swimming pools, a hammam, a massage, a wine bath or a refreshing swim on the famous roof terrace overlooking the Giralda, the finishing touch to return home new and with charged batteries.
After this super relaxation we choose a delicious restaurant for lunch and return home with a longing for the next fair.
Finally, I link you this video that I like to remember and that went viral at the time to stop the british show, which is as realistic as it is funny. The fair is narrated by an expert.
