These parents risk a fine for being late for school

In Morlaàs, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the mayor has taken the decision to financially sanction parents who pick up their children too late at night.

Could be expensive for latecomers. In the municipality of Morlaàs, the town hall has decided to penalize parents who arrive after 6.30 pm at the school’s nursery to pick up their child.

A fine that increases after several postponements

It is a decision that may surprise, but it is that of the mayor of the municipality of 4,000 inhabitants, located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. €5 for a first delay, €15 for the second and exclusion from the nursery school from the third time limit.

The town hall has taken this decision, which can be considered excessive, explaining that these delays penalize the agents of the municipality.

Per Isabelle Delanoë, president of FCPE 64 – the Federation of Parents’ Councils of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques – interviewed by rtl extensionthis decision is abusive:

It is always the families that are penalized. I don’t think they are late to pick up their children on purpose. What’s the next step? Do we send parents to prison? Or increase the fines?

And if the parents refuse to pay, what do they do? It is disproportionate to the situation of Morlaàs. Don’t forget that Morlaàs has 4,000 inhabitants.

The mayor of Morlaàs did not want to comment on this decision, justifying this action by stating that this practice is already taking place in other municipalities.
