SAG-AFTRA and the advertising industry’s joint policy committee have agreed to extend their Covid testing and safety protocols until March 31. The protocols, which were first adopted on April 16, 2021, were set to expire on December 31.
“Since the protocols were implemented, they have proven extremely effective in protecting cast and crew from unnecessary Covid risks in the workplace,” the union and JPC said in a joint statement.

The protocols, which “apply to any person present in an advertisement covered by the 2019 SAG-AFTRA Advertising Agreement,” include provisions for Covid testing during and before employment; temperature check once a day; social distancing; personal protective equipment provided by the employer and the presence of a built-in Covid compliance monitor to enforce protocols from crew call to end of production.
Unlike SAG-AFTRA film and television protocols, the commercial protocols do not allow employers to require Covid vaccinations as a condition of employment.
