As a sign of the times, Disney theme parks are reminding guests to be polite when visiting so-called family-friendly locations.
A new “Courtesy” tab on both parks’ websites spells out the expectations of park visitors.
“We ask all who come to this happy place to treat others with respect, kindness and compassion,” says the Communications section, which links to the park’s rules.
The announcement asks patrons to “treat others with respect,” a much-needed admonition after a few fights at the parks, some of which were captured on social media.
Those who do not comply will be asked to leave.
KTLA reported that the Disney World notification was added in mid-December, while the Disneyland update was added in the last few days.
Disneyland has not commented on the new division.
Disney World in Orlando, Florida was the scene of a massive brawl in July.
Videos posted online show at least six people engaged in a physical fight at the same time, while dozens more hover on the fringes, some trying to break it up and others sometimes joining the fray.
A large group of about half a dozen people wear matching red shorts and white T-shirts with mouse ears on the front. They appear to be fighting another equally large group, at least one of whom is using a racist slur.
Disney parks aren’t the only ones with problems. Knotts Berry Farm was forced to close early this summer amid fights between youths. The park has introduced new rules to quell future outbreaks.
Previously, Knotts required all guests under the age of 17 to be accompanied by a companion 21 or older on Fridays and Saturdays, but now the theme park requires it on Sundays and may add other days of the week if needed.
