Universal International Studios has promoted Ed Howard to head of UK unencrypted programming.
The former Channel 4 commissioner was previously Vice President of Creative Partnerships Universal Studio Group, but moved on to Senior Vice President of Script-Free Creative Programming to lead the studio’s crypto strategy.
Howard will build the studio’s “strategic partnership with creators, producers and on-screen talent to bring the shows to global scale and appeal,” according to the studio, owner of Monkey and Matchbox Pictures.
Howard joined NBCUniversal three years ago and has already signed a number of unscripted deals and projects, including an innovative link between the division and the BBC to discover transatlantic formats.
Howard will report to the head of Universal International Studios David O’Donoghue, who said, “Ed is a highly respected and talented creative executive who has the ability to showcase great shows with global potential and develop talent both on screen and beyond. Under his leadership, we will strengthen our stellar cryptocurrency business and continue to break new ground through our programming. “
