Peruvian cumbia orchestra La Bella Luz abruptly stopped a live concert in El Carmen, Chincha, on Thursday night after a spectator threw water onto the stage. The incident occurred during a free public performance celebrating the district's 110th anniversary at the local Plaza de Armas, forcing the musicians to abandon their show around 9:00 p.m.
Footage of the event spread rapidly across social media platforms, showing the moment the group cut their music mid-performance after members of the ensemble were targeted from the audience.
The concert in Chincha, a province located in the Ica region of Peru, was organized as part of the Gran Serenata festivities. Local municipal authorities had heavily promoted the appearance across official social media channels ahead of the event.
Interruption on stage
The disturbance began while La Bella Luz was in the middle of their set. Video recorded by audience members shows the group's host reacting with surprise as the music suddenly stopped, asking what had occurred on stage.
One of the band members quickly responded, explaining that an attendee had thrown water at the musicians. The action led to immediate frustration among the performers.
Visible uncomfortable with the incident, one of the singers requested that event personnel and security identify and remove the disrespectful person from the venue. The singer asked staff to take the individual away so the show could be managed safely.
Without resuming the performance, the artist then announced to the crowd that the group was leaving and thanked the audience before members began exiting the stage.
Host singles out suspect
Before walking off completely, the host addressed the gathering to express heartfelt thanks to the respectful audience members who had come out for the celebration, while expressing regret that the behavior of one person was ruining the event for everyone.
During his remarks, an event staff member approached the host on stage to confirm the identity of the alleged attacker. With the information in hand, the host pointed directly toward the individual in the crowd.
Addressing the audience, the host identified the person carrying yellow flowers who was heading toward the exit, stating that the party had to end because of that individual's actions.
Following the statement, the orchestra finalized their departure, bringing the anniversary concert to an unexpected close.
Prior band controversies and upcoming dates
The disruption in Chincha occurred shortly after La Bella Luz resumed live performances following a formal complaint by former singer Naldy Saldaña.
Saldaña previously left the orchestra and later spoke publicly after reviewing video of alleged improper touching by César Chávez. She stated that watching the footage made her feel afraid, but announced that she would return to the stage independently because she needed to continue her career.
Despite the incident in Chincha, La Bella Luz is scheduled for upcoming weekend concerts in Lima. The capital shows will feature the group alongside cumbia act Caribeños de Guadalupe and singer Paulo Londra.
