Keith Urban Relieved as Nicole Kidman Dates Businessman

Country singer Keith Urban feels relieved that actress Nicole Kidman has started dating businessman Michael Reinstein following the end of their marriage, insiders told the Daily Mail. Although initial reports claimed Urban was devastated by Kidman moving on, friends close to the couple said Urban was the one who ended the relationship in late 2025.

Kidman, 59, was pictured recently in Portofino, Italy, with Reinstein, a 54-year-old millionaire private equity businessman who owns Sunset Magazine. The actress was photographed chatting with Reinstein under large orange umbrellas by a villa pool, wearing a skimpy all-white outfit. The pair allegedly met at a pre-Oscars party this year, just months after her divorce from Urban was finalized, and Reinstein was seen last week picking her up from Hollywood Burbank Airport in his black Ferrari.

Urban, 58, had been unhappy for a long time and wanted relief from the high-profile lifestyle surrounding Kidman's career, according to a source close to the couple. "Keith’s been unhappy for a long time," one source told the Daily Mail. "He didn’t want to be on another red carpet or have a staff full of people and be forced to wear designer [clothes]. He doesn’t care about any of that. That’s not who he is, and he’s been dealing with it for a long time. He just wants to make music and play music. The rest was all very complicated and outside of his comfort zone."

Urban's desire for privacy had been documented throughout their 19-year marriage, including skipping the red carpet at the Country Music Association Awards last year. In a 2020 interview with Marie Claire, Kidman spoke about his need for solitude. "At times, he just needs to escape with his guitar," Kidman said. "Sometimes I’ll find him in his closet playing guitar. That’s when I know we really need to give him space."

Kidman's career generated far more high-profile obligations than Urban's. In the past three years alone, Kidman starred in 12 television and film productions and produced nine. Over the same period, Urban released one album, played a Las Vegas residency, and went on a world tour for most of 2025.

Their schedules caused conflicts, such as Kidman being unable to attend Urban's father's funeral in 2015 while shooting a film in England, though Urban attended and sang Amazing Grace at her father's memorial in 2014. The former couple previously maintained a rule of never spending more than five days apart. However, despite their public commitments, allegations indicate the couple had been living separate lives for nearly three years before announcing their split in September 2025.

A producer confirmed that Urban's team disconnected the call because they did not want him answering questions about his wife. Urban had also acted curtly during a September 2024 interview on Gold 101.7 with Jonesy & Amanda, giving a quick "no idea" when asked about fate before removing his jacket and asking to move on.

Custody arrangements and family tension

Sources close to the couple revealed that Kidman has privately been angry about the divorce and was previously restricting Urban's time with their daughters, Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15. "She’s the one that’s mad at him. He is not getting to see his kids as much as he wants," a source told the Daily Mail. "It’s basically an 'if you want to see them come back home' kinda thing."

The insider added that Kidman dating Reinstein could be a relief for Urban because the actress may ease up. Under their divorce filing, Kidman retains custody of Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret for 306 days a year, while Urban receives visitation every other weekend and alternating holidays. The reduced custody and immediate rumors after the divorce filing proved difficult for the singer. Media reports linked Urban to his guitarist Maggie Baugh and tour opener Karley Scott Collins, both 26, but both musicians denied the claims.

Daily Mail sources confirmed that rumors regarding dating or sobriety failures were false. Urban, who married Kidman in 2006, remains sober as he approaches 20 years of sobriety. Urban previously credited Kidman with helping him achieve sobriety, stating in 2014 that falling in love with her became his sobriety. A prenuptial agreement between the pair reportedly awarded him close to 11 million dollars, structured as 600,000 dollars per year of marriage, for remaining sober.

Urban ultimately decided to leave the marriage after reflecting on his future. "He left her," a source said. "His decision came after he was asked, 'When you see yourself in ten years do you see Nicole in that picture?' And he clearly didn’t."
