Jennifer Lawrence has recorded a song for the upcoming prequel film The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, movie studio Lionsgate announced.
The soundtrack album will be released on November 13, arriving one week before the film makes its theatrical debut in the United States. The collection features 29 tracks in total, bringing together songs from rock bands The Cure and Depeche Mode alongside the new recording from Lawrence.
Lawrence's contribution is a full rendition of Deep in the Meadow, marking a return to the franchise for the actress who portrayed central heroine Katniss Everdeen across the first four films. Although Lawrence is celebrated primarily for her screen acting, she previously earned commercial music success within the series when her vocal performance of The Hanging Tree became an international chart hit.
Soundtrack details and Deep in the Meadow
The song Deep in the Meadow carries deep significance for fans of the franchise. In the original story, Katniss softly sings the gentle lullaby to her young ally Rue during the 74th Hunger Games, turning the melody into an emotional symbol of grief and resistance against the ruling Capitol.
The upcoming film is adapted from the novel of the same name by author Suzanne Collins and serves as a prequel to the primary storyline. The narrative focuses on the 50th Annual Hunger Games, the deadly competition won by the character Haymitch Abernathy twenty-four years before he met Katniss.
Prequel plot and cast
Haymitch was introduced in the original films as a cynical former champion played by Woody Harrelson, who served as a reluctant mentor to young tributes from District 12. The prequel chronicles his own teenage fight for survival in the fictional nation of Panem, where the Capitol forces children from outlying districts to battle to the death.
The production features Maya Hawke, known for the television series Stranger Things, alongside Joseph Zada from The Perfect Crime and Jesse Plemons, who recently appeared in the film Civil War.
The film will officially release in cinemas in Russia on November 26, shortly after its American premiere. The launch of the 29-song soundtrack on November 13 will give fans their first taste of the project before the movie arrives on cinema screens worldwide.
