Rapper J. Cole canceled his Thursday night concert in Sacramento after a member of his touring crew died in a truck crash in California. The accident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Thursday morning when an equipment truck overturned on Interstate 5.
The 41-year-old hip-hop star was scheduled to perform at the Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento. Following the fatal incident, venue officials confirmed the cancellation of the concert on social media.
Golden 1 Center shared a statement on Instagram addressing the tragedy. "Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole's show scheduled for tonight has been cancelled," the venue wrote. "Our thoughts are with the crew member's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
Overturned Equipment Truck on Interstate 5
The victim was driving a big rig transporting concert equipment for Cole's show. The crash occurred on southbound Interstate 5 near Woodland, California, a city located in Yolo County northwest of Sacramento. Interstate 5 serves as the primary north-south highway corridor connecting California to the Pacific Northwest.
According to authorities, the truck drifted onto the right shoulder of the highway. The vehicle overturned as the driver attempted to steer it back onto the freeway. Authorities told CBS News Sacramento that no one else was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Emergency personnel freed the driver from the wreckage, and a medical helicopter was dispatched to transport the victim. However, the truck operator was later pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver has not been publicly released.
Investigation and Cause of the Crash
Authorities have not yet determined why the vehicle veered off the highway. California Highway Patrol Sergeant David Barker told CBS News Sacramento that investigators are evaluating multiple possibilities, including driver distraction or sleep deprivation, though the official cause remains unknown.

The semi-truck was hauling stage gear from Cole's previous concert stop in Seattle, Washington, where he performed on Tuesday. Seattle was one of the major Pacific Northwest dates on the rapper's current North American schedule.

The canceled Sacramento performance is part of Cole's headlining arena tour in support of his seventh studio album, The Fall-Off, which was released in February. The tour marks the artist's first solo headlining concert series in five years.
Cole, whose hit tracks include "Love Yourz," has several additional California dates remaining on his itinerary. His next scheduled performances are set for Saturday and Sunday in Oakland, California. He is also scheduled to perform two shows in Los Angeles on Tuesday, September 1, and Thursday, September 3.
It is currently unknown whether the tragedy will affect any of the upcoming concert dates in Oakland or Los Angeles.
