CVS REMOVE cap on ‘morning-after’ pill sales three days after administration

CVS lifted the restriction on selling the morning after pill just three days after it was implemented due to increased demand following the destruction of Roe v Wade.

America’s largest drugstore chain said in the minutes following the court decision, demand “increased significantly”, limiting sales per woman to three.

But a spokesperson told DailyMaill.com that demand was “returning to normal”, allowing them to lift the restriction. It hit Plan B pills, which retail for $49.99 each, and Aftera products, which retail for $39.99.

While Rite Aid still has a sales cap, Walgreens now expects a new supply of morning-after pills for delivery within days of being reportedly out of stock online over the weekend.

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, which gave abutilon constitutional protection, sparked nationwide panic, with many hastily stacking the pills that took nearly four years.

A judge suggested that birth control rules could be reconsidered, although there is no recommendation that a state will block the sale of the morning after pill.

The morning-after pill is a type of emergency contraception used for unprotected sex or as a last resort when other devices, such as condoms, have failed.

They are available over-the-counter, which requires taking the pill within 72 hours of intercourse to terminate a pregnancy.

It works by preventing ovulation or by replacing the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation of an egg and prevent pregnancy. Manufacturer’s data show that they are approximately 87% effective.

Morning-after medications are different from abortion drugs like Mifeprex, which require a prescription and take two pills.

Many women can only buy one pack of morning after pills at a time.

CVS set the limit on Saturday, and Rite Aid followed on Monday.

But when it was announced that the limit would be lifted, a spokesperson said: “Right after the Supreme Court decision, we saw a sharp increase in emergency contraceptive sales and introduced a temporary purchase limit to ensure access is fair.

Since then, sales have returned to normal. We still have a large supply of emergency contraceptives to meet customer needs”.

Rite Aid has Plan B pills for $47.49 each and Option 2 pills for one for $32.99 and has limited sales on Mondays.

Walgreens said yesterday that it is still able to meet “in-store demand” and is “working” to replenish its online inventory. The pharmacy did not say when the home-delivered pills were out of stock.

It comes after women hastily stockpiled abortion and birth control pills for fears that entry might be banned.

Last week, the court’s longest-serving judge, Clarence Thomas, warned that they could “reconsider” decisions on access to birth control, suggesting that the right to the morning-after pill could also be jeopardized.

This has caused panic in many quarters, and women are now in a hurry to replenish their rations.

In the days following Roe v Wade’s cancellation, some clinics say their appointments have quadrupled since the Roe v Wade decision.

Planned Parenthood Southeast in Atlanta, Georgia, says it’s also facing a wave of women wanting to know how many pills there are.

In the midst of this hustle, however, many are being asked not to take it completely off the shelf to ensure that abortion pills remain available to women who need them right now.

Abortion pills are expected to be the focus of many legal battles to ban abortion in states.

So far, 13 states have passed new laws banning abortion completely, with no exceptions for rape or incest, with Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Missouri.

The drugs are less expensive and invasive, and the pills can be shipped to your home, which means it’s a common choice for women who choose to have an abortion.
