Em Rusciano regrets not including trans men in the abortion debate

Em Rusciano publicly apologized on Thursday for forgetting to include trans men in a discussion about abortion.

The 43-year-old woman touched on the incident on Instagram after a fan told her that “women aren’t the only ones getting abortions”.

Em’s misstep was the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade, the historic resolution establishing the constitutional right to abortion in the United States in 1973.

It’s not just women who have abortions. Transmen and AFAB [assigned female at birth] people need them too, and it’s extremely important to include them in the conversation,” wrote the fan.

“I know she’s the queen of allies and I would be fully aware of that – take this as a friendly reminder,” they finished, followed by a menacing smiley.

Em quickly took to the criticism and directed his use of “language only” in one post to his 222,000 followers.

“This is a great point,” he said.

“I unintentionally used exclusionary language on the podcast. I know I didn’t recognize trans men and women at birth who should also have access to abortion,” she continued.

“So I’m really sorry and I’m going to get better,” Em concluded.

The Supreme Court decided to overturn the historic 1973 Roe v Wade decision, ending the constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place for nearly 50 years.

“I know I don’t know trans men and I don’t assign women who should have access to abortion at birth,” Em said.

Power has now been returned to individual states to decide whether to allow trials.

Women with unwanted pregnancies in America will now face the choice of traveling to another state where the procedure will remain legal and available, purchase abortion pills online, or have a potentially dangerous illegal abortion.

Em also returned to his podcast this week after another listener called him for using language about autism that they found offensive.

The star has a son with autism and is described as both autistic and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

“I got a woman right when I mentioned autism,” she said on the Emsolation podcast this week.

He said that autistic people prefer to say “with autism” rather than “with autism.” As a parent of a child with ASD and researching autism, I calmly told him, “It’s a language choice and I’m part of this community and I’m not offended.”

“I think it’s completely unnecessary to check other people’s language. Especially if I’m in that community.’
