Doctors at Florida Pride warned on Thursday that as the number of infections in the United States has tripled, Americans should avoid “prolonged” skin contact in clubs and bars to prevent monkey sickness.
During a briefing, seeing a case of monkeypox at his clinic, Dr. Zachary Henry also warned people with unusual rashes to stay away from others.
Sexual health expert AIDS Health Foundation added that the airborne spread of the tropical disease among humans takes “hours” because there is no need to wear a face mask.
Scientists say monkeypox spreads by touching infectious lesions in patients. They can occur anywhere on the body, including the face, arms, and genitals. It can also be transmitted through the air during prolonged face-to-face contact.
Appearing with Margaret Gorensek, Henry spoke ahead of a Pride Parade in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this Saturday, which could draw more than 100,000 spectators. Most states like New York and Chicago, Illinois will celebrate this weekend.
Both experts warned that monkeypox is spreading undetected in Florida, after a scientist earlier this week claimed it was also broadcasting under the radar in Massachusetts.
America has so far recorded 100 cases of monkeypox; Maryland and Oregon are the twentieth and twenty-first states to recognize the virus that is currently causing the rash.
Globally, more than 1,000 infections have been discovered so far in 35 countries in the “biggest outbreak” outside of its native Africa. But no death yet.
The number of cases of monkeypox in the United States has now reached 100. The table on the left shows the number of cases in each state and the number of registered infections per state in the last 24 hours. Maryland and Oregon register their first virus cases today

Organizers of the Fort Lauderdale Pride say up to 100,000 people are expected to attend. The picture above is an earlier parade in the city.
Henry said about Monkeypox at town hall: “Going to Pride, going to shops, restaurants, bars, avoiding prolonged skin contact should be safe.
“The only other way to transmit monkeypox is through respiratory droplets, but this is rare.
“If you don’t touch one, you have to be unmasked for several hours or even longer to get them.
WHO is investigating whether monkeypox can be transmitted through sperm
The World Health Organization (WHO) said it will investigate whether monkeypox can be transmitted through sperm.
Currently, scientists say it can be spread through sex through physical contact with infectious skin lesions in the genital area or other parts of the body.
But this week, Italian scientists said they had discovered parts of the virus in sperm, increasing the likelihood of transmission this way.
German scientists say that they also discovered the virus in semen.
A WHO official announced Wednesday that they are investigating the reports.
Catherine Smallwood, head of the agency’s monkeypox case, said: “We really need to focus on the most common mode of transmission, and we see that it’s clearly correlated with skin-to-skin contact.”
More than 2,000 cases have been discovered worldwide, except in West Africa, where it is endemic.
These are mostly gay and bisexual men.
However, scientists warn that the virus that causes the rash spreads through close personal contact and that the disease is likely to spread to other groups.
“So you can go to the Parade, don’t be afraid to go to bars and pubs but watch out for bangs and see what’s on their bodies.”
He added: “Actually, you wouldn’t want prolonged skin-to-skin contact with someone with this rash.
“For people who like darkrooms or commercial sex clubs where you can’t see what’s on the person’s body, now is not the time to be there.”
Gorensek, an infectious disease specialist at the state’s Holy Cross Medical Group, warned people to “minimize” skin-to-skin contact.
“There would be less risk of going to concerts and rallies, it’s not a high risk,” he said. But with skin-to-skin contact, you fall into this category more.
“We didn’t have many cases” [in Florida] But we can get to that point,” he said.
Zachary explained that the monkeypox patient he was treating started developing a rash about a day after having sex with another person.
He said this suggests that the case was tainted before he had sexual intercourse with that person by another person who has yet to be identified. The person she was having sex with is probably also infected now.
Columbus in Ohio and Portland in Oregon will also hold Pride Parades this weekend, each finding one case of monkeypox. But he gave no instructions on how to protect yourself from tropical diseases during the celebrations.
That said, the organizers of New York City Pride, which attracts up to two million people and is the largest in America, have released guidelines on how to protect yourself from the disease.
In an Instagram post on Monday, they urged anyone with a rash who isn’t feeling bad to not attend events.
They also said that anyone with a fever, headache, or swollen glands should see their doctor for testing.
They said: “The risk for most people is still low, but the information allows our community to stay healthy.”
Chicago also warned people who feel unwell or have an unusual rash to stay away from summer parties and festivals this week.
There are currently 100 cases of monkeypox recorded in 21 states in America, with the highest numbers in California, New York, and Illinois.
Many infections are between gay and bisexual men and can extend to international travel. However, a growing number among those with no ties to overseas travel or other known cases suggests the virus is spreading under the radar in the country.

New York City Pride organizers have also set guidelines for those wishing to attend the parades. They invite people who have a rash or feel unwell to “stay away.”

It came after DailyMail.com announced that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had issued bizarre guidelines on how to have sex while infected with monkeypox.
He claims that anyone who has the disease should not have sexual intercourse.
But for those who ignore the advice, she’s posted a list of dos and don’ts under the sheets.
One of her tips was to masturbate at least six feet away from your partner and also have sex while still fully clothed to cover any rashes.
Another piece of advice was not to kiss right afterward, wash your hands, fetishize your clothes and clothes, or even think about having sex virtually, for example, on the phone.
People get monkeypox from touching infectious skin lesions, but it can also be spread through the air during “permanent” face-to-face contact.
It can take up to four weeks for anyone infected with monkeypox to recover from the illness, and it takes about eight days for symptoms to appear after infection.
