A Georgia woman decided to travel the world to get root canal treatment after learning that it would be too expensive to get the root canal to the United States, saving nearly $2,000 in the process.
Delia O’Malley, 26, an Irish immigrant from Atlanta, went to the dentist for a root canal when she felt extreme pain in one of her teeth.
26-year-old Delia O’Malley (pictured) saved nearly $2,000 by getting root canals in Turkey instead of Atlanta, Georgia.
He got a price for the surgery and saw that even after paying for some of his insurance it would cost him $3,099, he decided it wasn’t possible.
Instead, he traveled to Izmir, Turkey, spending a week touring the city and having surgery for only a fraction of the cost of performing the same procedure at home.
“I wouldn’t pay more than three thousand to have my teeth done. He is disturbed. So guess what I’m doing? I booked a plane ticket to Turkey, I’m flying tomorrow morning,” he said.
O’Malley said that he had undergone dental treatment in Turkey before and then became a dentist on the Aegean coast.
When she got an offer from her local dentist, she immediately planned to travel to see the same dentist abroad.
“I got the bill on Thursday and flew in at 11 am on Friday,” he said.
He could not only do the procedure in the European country, but also have a wonderful vacation.
His family was already on vacation in the area, he explained, choosing to spend a week in a hotel enjoying the area’s beautiful scenery and climate.
“I’m going to have fun, work, sit in the sun and live my best life, and I no longer have a toothache and I haven’t spent three thousand dollars,” he said.
He reports that the total trip cost $1,167, with $807 for the round trip and less than $200 for the root canal itself.

When O’Malley, who suffers from severe toothache, asked the dentist how much the root canal treatment would cost, he received an offer of over $3,000 after insurance.
‘The vacation was great and well worth it. I spent less money than I did the job in Atlanta,” he said.
†[My experience with the dentist] it was really good. The dentist is amazing and I highly recommend him.
While the decision may seem strange to some, O’Malley advises other people to consider medical tourism to help them cope with the rapidly rising prices in the United States.
More than 300,000 Americans travel overseas for medical reasons each year, a staggering number for a country often known for its high-quality medical offerings, according to the U.S. International Trade Commission.
However, medical bills in the United States can be exorbitant. Monthly health insurance premiums can reach thousands for large families, and this does not include the high deductions many have to pay before their insurance takes effect.

In response to the bill, O’Malley (pictured) decided to have the procedure done by a Turkish dentist he had visited before. He also had the opportunity to meet his family, who was on vacation in Turkey.
Many policyholders cannot actually afford to use it unless they are faced with a major emergency, in a category that authorities describe as “functionally uninsured.”
However, there are some concerns about going abroad for cheaper treatment.
While many countries such as the UK, France, and Germany have doctors comparable to medical offerings in America, not all countries can offer the highest level of medicine.
Some are worse off after treatment than before they left.
Amanda Turner, 34, from Belfast, Ireland, also O’Malley’s hometown, told Il Sole that an attempt to get cheap veneers in Turkey ruined her teeth and cost thousands of repairs.
But O’Malley, who is self-employed and can travel so easily on a whim, said his family and friends agreed with his decision.
“My mother was very supportive of my decision. “When I told people about this, they started thinking and they thought this was a really smart way to do dental work,” he said.
“Others have said they want to do the same.”
