A doctor who was “slightly depressed” and “totally drained” while taking Ozempic at 8pm has revealed he found a new lease of life after stopping the drug.
The 42-year-old from the Midwest, who was not named, had been taking Ozempic for two years to lose weight — but he knew he didn’t want to take the medication forever.
Within days of stopping the drug, he said his energy levels soared and his mood improved – with his wife previously suggesting he was suffering from “mild depression”.
His old appetite returned, but the doctor said he did not eat as much as before he took the medicine; He lived on three modest meals a day and rarely needed snacks.
He’s only two months into his Ozempic-free life, but says he hasn’t gained back any of the 25 pounds he lost. The doctor does not rule out that the drug is used again in the future.

Statistics show that more than nine million Americans use Ozempic and similar weight loss drugs, which help people lose weight by suppressing appetite.
However, many find it difficult to stop taking the medication and some regain all the weight they lost after stopping the medication.
For example, a large study in Britain found that overweight patients taking Wegovy – which contains the same drug as Ozempic – lost 18 percent of their body weight after just over a year of using the drug. But a year after they stopped using the drug, results showed they regained 12 percent of the weight they had lost.
Speaking to Business Insider, the doctor said, “I can tell you that my old appetite has returned and my hunger is much stronger than when I was taking the medication.”
“Back then I couldn’t even make room for side dishes like a small green salad for dinner.
“But I notice that, for whatever reason, I still eat less now than I did before Ozempic.”
“Generally, I get by with a modest breakfast, a small to medium lunch, and then a family dinner, which is usually my biggest meal of the day.”
“I feel like I don’t need snacks and treats like I used to, and my three meals are enough to last me all day.”
“Maybe my stomach got smaller? Maybe I’ve just been really busy lately. Who knows.’

When asked if there were any benefits to stopping the drug, he said he now seems “more energetic and happier” than before.
“It could all be in my head,” he said, “but I feel like on Ozempic I had more low-energy days and was often completely exhausted by 8 or 9 p.m.”
“My wife also said that I seemed more negative in general and that she had never seen me so depressed, almost like I had … kind of mild depression.”
Poison control centers record 1,500% increase in weight loss drug overdoses
According to US poison control centers, there were nearly 3,000 calls related to the drugs between January and November this year – compared to just 196 in 2019.
“I realize now that it’s possible that the subtle amount of extra calories I’m taking in these days is lifting my mood, or maybe there’s something else we don’t fully understand about how the drug works that’s affecting my mood.”
He said he also takes metformin and recently increased his dose from 1,000 to 1,500 milligrams (mg).
The drug requires a prescription for diabetics and works by reducing the amount of glucose released into the body by the liver – and by helping cells absorb this sugar from the bloodstream.
He is now also taking rapamycin, which also requires a prescription, which can also make the cells more sensitive to insulin.
The drug is also loved by biohackers for its purported ability to slow down cellular aging.
Ozempic uses the active ingredient semaglutide, which is given to patients via weekly injections.
Known as Hollywood’s worst kept secret, the drug’s popularity skyrocketed when it was revealed that many celebrities were using it to lose weight.
Recently, Oprah Winfrey, who helps others lose weight, revealed that she uses weight loss medication to lose weight.
However, not everyone who used the drug achieved success.
TikTok star Remi Bader has revealed how she gained back “twice the weight” she lost when she stopped using the drug and said she won’t take it again.
