The press service of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the region said they received a report about the Airbus A330-300 aircraft touching down at 06:15 local time on August 15.

Krasnoyarsk is a major city in Siberia, and its airport serves as a significant aviation hub for the region. Hainan Airlines is a large Chinese carrier that operates international routes connecting China with European destinations like Manchester in northern England.

Officials confirmed there were no deaths or injuries among those on board the flight. The aircraft and ground infrastructure at the Siberian airport were completely undamaged during the landing.

Flight path alterations

The Russian Telegram channel Shot reported that an unspecified emergency situation took place on board during the flight.

According to the channel, the aircraft completed several circles in the sky above the town of Divnogorsk before coming in for the emergency landing. Divnogorsk is a settlement situated on the Yenisei River near Krasnoyarsk.

Official authorities have not yet released any information regarding the specific cause of the incident.

The Airbus A330-300 is a twin engine jet airliner typically used for carrying passengers on long intercontinental flights. The Ministry of Emergency Situations is the federal body responsible for civil defence and emergency response across the Russian Federation.

Midair smoke incident

The event follows an earlier incident where a Swiss International Air Lines passenger plane urgently changed its flight path.

The aircraft was travelling from Switzerland to the United States of America. The Swiss flight was forced to divert its route after smoke was detected in the business class cabin.

Swiss International Air Lines is the national carrier of Switzerland, operating flights across Europe and to North America.
