Greek police uprooted 143 cannabis plants across 17 plantations during a major operation in the mountainous areas of Rethymno, Anogeia, and Mylopotamos on August 4.

The coordinated search was carried out by officers from the Drug Prosecution Unit of the Rethymno Crimes Prosecution and Investigation Sub-Directorate, the Police Operations Departments of Rethymno and Mylopotamos, and the Rethymno Crime Prevention and Suppression Team. Police reported that the plants were carefully cultivated across the 17 sites, in various stages of growth, and reached heights of up to three meters.

Cannabis plantations in Mylopotamos

In one plantation in the municipality of Mylopotamos, officers located nine cannabis plants and arrested a 38-year-old local man for his alleged involvement. Officers also confiscated numerous items from the plantation sites to serve as evidence in the case.

Weapons seizure at sheepfold

During a search conducted at a sheepfold belonging to a 48-year-old local man, police found and seized two hunting weapons, a magazine, and gun cleaning supplies. Authorities opened a case file against the 48-year-old for violations of weapons legislation.

Police operations and searches remain underway to locate and arrest the remaining individuals involved in the illegal cultivation. The preliminary investigation into the case is being conducted by the Drug Prosecution Unit of the Rethymno Crimes Prosecution and Investigation Sub-Directorate.
