Police officers in Crete seized 143 cannabis plants across 17 plantations during a coordinated operation in the mountainous regions of Rethymno, news agency APE-MPE reported. Officers from the Drug Prosecution Department of the Rethymno Subdirectorate of Prosecution and Crime Investigation organized the raids alongside police operation teams from Rethymno and Mylopotamos and the Rethymno Crime Prevention and Suppression Team.
Searches took place across mountainous areas in the municipalities of Rethymno, Anogeia and Mylopotamos. Officers found 17 carefully cultivated plantations containing growing cannabis plants reaching heights of up to three meters. In one Mylopotamos plantation holding nine plants, police arrested a 38-year-old local man.
Weapons seized at sheepfold
Police also searched a sheepfold belonging to a 48-year-old local man, seizing two hunting rifles, a magazine and gun cleaning supplies. Authorities filed a case against him for violations of weapons legislation.
Officers collected multiple items of evidence from the plantation sites for further investigation while searches continue to locate and arrest remaining suspects. The Drug Prosecution Department of the Rethymno Subdirectorate of Prosecution and Crime Investigation is conducting the preliminary investigation.
