Godzilla: Minus Zero earns top A rating from CinemaScore

Monster film Godzilla: Minus Zero earned a top A grade from CinemaScore audience polling after holding its world premiere on November 6.

The market research firm published the score one day after the debut, drawing on survey responses collected directly from moviegoers as they left theater screenings. The high grade indicates that audiences embraced the new sequel on the same level as the 2023 original hit, Godzilla Minus One.

CinemaScore conducts opening night audience polling across cinemas, asking verified ticket holders to submit letter grades ranging from A plus down to F. In the film industry, an A grade represents exceptionally strong word of mouth, signaling that general viewers were thoroughly pleased with their cinema experience.

Critical reception on Rotten Tomatoes

Critics have also welcomed Godzilla: Minus Zero with warm reviews, although the sequel trails slightly behind the extraordinary benchmark set by the first installment. The movie holds a 90 percent fresh rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, compared to the 99 percent score achieved by the 2023 release.

Rotten Tomatoes tracks opinions from verified entertainment writers and classifies individual reviews as either positive or negative to generate an overall percentage score. A score of 90 percent keeps the production firmly in positive territory among professional critics, reflecting broad approval for the monster sequel.

Postwar storyline shifts to New York

The plot of Godzilla: Minus Zero is set in 1949, two years after the dramatic finale of the original picture. The narrative follows surviving characters who endured the devastating monster attack on Tokyo, only to face a new crisis as the creature sets its sights on destroying New York.

The setting anchors the story in the immediate postwar era, moving the action from the ruined Japanese capital across the ocean to the United States. Godzilla first debuted on cinema screens in Japan in 1954 and has since developed into one of the most recognizable monster franchises in international cinematic history.
