Greek singers Nikos Oikonomopoulos and Thodoris Ferris postponed their scheduled Thursday concerts following the sudden death of fellow artist Giorgos Mazonakis on Wednesday.
The announcements came on Wednesday evening, September 9, just hours after news broke of the unexpected loss of Mazonakis. Both upcoming performances had been slated for Thursday, September 10.
Mazonakis was a prominent figure in popular Greek music, known for his decades-long career in contemporary laiko and pop. Oikonomopoulos and Ferris, both major performers in the Greek music industry, altered their schedules to honor their late colleague.
Athens Performance Moved to Late September
Nikos Oikonomopoulos was scheduled to perform at the Petra Theatre, a well-known open-air amphitheater located in the Petroupoli neighborhood of Athens. On Wednesday evening, he announced that the concert would not take place on its original Thursday date.
Oikonomopoulos informed fans with a heavy heart that the event would be pushed back to Friday, September 25. He stated that the sudden loss of his dear friend and colleague had left everyone in deep mourning. Apologizing for the disruption to fans who were looking forward to the evening, he confirmed that all previously purchased tickets would remain valid for the new date.
Tour Finale in Larissa Rescheduled
Thodoris Ferris also adjusted his performance schedule on the same evening. Ferris had been set to play at the AEL FC Arena in Larissa, a commercial hub in the Thessaly region of central Greece.
The appearance in Larissa was planned as the final stop of his summer concert tour, which featured sold-out shows across the country. Following the news of the passing of Mazonakis, music company Panik Live Productions issued an official announcement alongside a personal message from Ferris on social media.
Ferris told his followers that the concert in Larissa on September 10 would not take place due to the loss of Mazonakis. He explained that the show was moved to September 24 at the same stadium and noted that all bought tickets will be honored as normal. Ferris expressed gratitude for the understanding of his fans and offered a final farewell message wishing his friend a good journey.
Both affected changes involve concerts that were set for Thursday, September 10, one day after the death of Mazonakis. Fans holding tickets for either venue can use them for the rescheduled dates later in September.
