Two doctors operating a private medical clinic in Kolonaki have been released from Kypseli Police Station following the death of renowned Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis.
The married couple were freed at approximately 11:40 p.m., just before midnight, after delivering their statements to investigating authorities. Mazonakis reportedly passed away inside the clinic after suffering a cardiac arrest.

He noted that authorities are currently awaiting witness statements from two employees at the clinic, while an official site inspection of the facility is also set to take place. Agapinos called on the public to uphold the presumption of innocence in both words and practice, warning against premature judgments regarding professionals with distinguished scientific careers.
Addressing the medical treatment, Agapinos stated that there is no connection between the medical procedure performed and the death of the artist. He asserted that the defense maintains there is no criminal liability to address and no further basis for investigation.

The attorney clarified that the only medical professional involved in treating the patient was the female doctor, who is an internist. Following earlier public statements by officials, Agapinos confirmed that the clinic equipment is duly registered with the Medical Association, fully legal, and operated in compliance with the law.
He further explained that establishing civil liability would require proof of medical negligence, meaning evidence that a procedure was conducted improperly. Agapinos also noted that the facility does not operate as a single business entity, but rather consists of two co-located doctors who run independent practices while being married.
Describing the emotional condition of his clients, Agapinos said the doctors have been in shock since the incident occurred, noting that a death occurring on medical premises is deeply distressing. He appealed for public restraint, asking that the situation not be turned into a Roman Colosseum while awaiting forensic findings.
