A new French comedy film called Les Gendarmes opens in cinemas this Wednesday, starring actor Arnaud Ducret in a story about a gendarmerie brigade with plenty of good intentions but a habit of being overtaken by events.
The film is adapted from a successful comic strip series. Its setting is the town of Charnay-les-Macon in the Saone-et-Loire region of France.
The production is likely to draw comparisons to the classic Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez, which was released more than 50 years ago.
