Marvel fans have been very curious to know what’s new Daredevil: Born Again series will bring, especially now that it’s a Disney+ show. We also got a little taste of the new version of Charlie CoxThere is Daredevil She-Hulk: Advocate and it certainly had a much different and lighter tone to it.
The new series will consist of 18 episodes and Cox recently revealed in an interview with NME that he will spend almost all of 2023 filming the Marvel project. It will be an 11-month monthly production! He said: “They told me: ‘We will shoot in 2023’. I said, ‘Great, when?’ They said: “All 2023”. I start shooting in February and finish in December.
This will do Daredevil: Born Again Marvel’s biggest project on Disney+ so far. Speaking about the tone of the series, he said he thought it would be like an old-school procedural:
“I’m fascinated to find out why they chose to do 18. I imagine there will be an element similar to the old school procedural spectacle. Not necessarily the case of the week, but something where we really dive into attorney Matt Murdock and see what his life is like. If it’s done right and really gets its hands dirty with that world… I think there’s something very interesting about that.”
The big question on many fans’ minds is whether this new series will be as dark and gritty as the Netflix version of the show, which was great! I was hoping to see that story continue and see more of that style, but I don’t think that will be the case. Cox says he believes the new show will be dark but not gory. He explains:
“My opinion is that this character works best when it’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience. My gut is that it will be dark on Disney+ but it probably won’t be as gory. i would say [people hoping the Disney+ show copies the Netflix show], we did. Let’s take the stuff that actually worked, but can we scale up? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?
I’m sure they can, but they have to be very smart about it. I just hope they don’t go dumb, which Marvel is doing a lot more these days. Cox previously spoke a bit about what he’d like to see in the next film Reckless series and shared some things he would like to see that they weren’t able to do in the Netflix series. He specifically points out that he wants there to be more stunts.
“Hopefully, on the Disney Plus show, Born Again, we’ll be able to use – and I hope we do sparingly, I think it should be used sparingly – but hopefully we can use a little more CGI in the sequences of action, only to emphasize his gymnastic skills that have been practically impossible to do.
Cox went on to explain why we’d like to see him in the new series, saying, “These little moments would elevate the scenes and be something that would make the show even more relatable to the comics.”
The series was written and executive produced by Secret business creators Matthew Corman and Chris Ord. The 18 episode season of Daredevil: Born Again is expected to premiere in 2024.
