It’s been 15 years since the last one National treasure movie was released. National Treasure: Book of Secrets certainly left room for another sequel to arrive and the story to continue, but things have been pretty quiet on that front, aside from the franchise that launched the series National Treasure: Edge of History last year to keep fans busy and entertained within the franchise.
But the producer of the films, Jerry Bruckheimerhas now provided us with an update on the National Treasury 3 long-in-the-works movie, telling E!:
“We said we’d like to make another National Treasure and they said, ‘Sure, let’s come up with a new cast. At the same time, we were developing National Treasure for theaters with Nicolas Cage, which we’re still doing. So, it’s in course.”
Justin Barthawho plays Nicolas CageBest friend and partner of , Riley Poole, has returned to play the character in the series, and said:
“Ben and I have been working on this super important thing for the past three, four, 15 years.”
As for what could that super important thing be?
“Let’s just say there are 47 reasons to be interested.”
Like National treasure fans know, this is a direct reference to the second film, in which the President of the United States (Bruce Greenwood) tells Ben about a mysterious page 47 in the titular Book of Secrets, but its contents are never revealed to the public. So it seems like that third movie is the only way to clear up that plot!
