Stephen King, Mary Shelley or HP Lovecraft are some of the horror authors with the largest number of adaptations of their stories on the big or small screen. His credits appear in a multitude of tapes, but now we will see those horror films based on books that few know about, or at least not on the scale that ‘The Shining’, ‘Jaws’ or other classics are famous for.
To open the list of the best horror films based on little-known books we have “Deliver us from evil”. A film directed by Scott Evans and starring Eric Bana, Edgar Ramírez and Sean Harris. The story is based on the non-fiction novel called “Beware the Night” by Ralp Sarchie and Lisa Collier, which tells the story of a police officer investigating strange crimes. Available on Netflix.
A missed call
Based on little known novel by Yashushi Akimoto, ‘Chakushin Ari’, we have ‘A Missed Call’, a horror movie which itself is a remake of a 2003 Japanese film of the same name. The story follows Beth, a young girl who witnesses the death of two of her friends, who had been warned of their tragic fate in a phone call days earlier. Available on HBOMax.
the lady in black
With Daniel Radcliffe and Ciarán Hinds, we have ‘The Lady in Black’, a horror film based on the novel by Susan Hill. The story follows Arthur Kipps, a lawyer who is grieving the recent loss of his wife, and is now sent to a village where he has the case of a recently deceased. But once he reaches the place, he discovers a terrible secret that the villagers keep. Available on HBOMax.

annihilation
In one of the best sci-fi and horror installments in recent years, we have ‘Annihilation’, a film based on the award-winning novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer. The story follows a group of scientists from different fields, played by Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and others, who are sent to a place that changes the laws of physics, where the soldiers have not returned. medical sleep
Perhaps its first part is better known, but few recognize that “Doctor Sleep” is a horror film based on a book by Stephen King. This is the sequel to “The Shining”, directed by Mike Flanagan, and starring Ewan McGregor, which brings to life Dani, Jack’s son, who is now an adult, but still remembers his childhood traumas. The Wicked
And finally, Evan Spiliotopoulos’ film, ‘The Unholy’, also known in Spanish as ‘Ruega por Nosotros’. The story follows a journalist, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who hasn’t had a good career. But in a small town she discovers the next big story of him, a series of events that hides something very dark. Available on HBOMax.
