Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of “The Search”, announced in an interview for E! News that the third part of the franchise is approaching. 15 years after the last installment saw the light of day, Bruckheimer has hinted that the script for the next film is being worked on.

already in 2018 one of the writers of the saga (Jon Turteltaub) revealed in Collider why ‘The Search 3’ took so long to arrive: “When ‘The Search (National Treasure)’ was first made, there was a lot more money to throw around the movies and everyone was being paid well. The problem with making the third part isn’t that the paid people say : “I won. Unless you pay me a lot”. The real reason is that Disney believes that there are other films that they think will make them more money, I think they are wrong. […] I just think this (‘The Quest 3’) might be one of them, they don’t realize how much the internet is asking for the third part.”the screenwriter openly commented.
The Disney+ spin-off series ‘The Search: Beyond History’ has become a priority for the producer and the company itself. However, Bruckheimer left actor Nicolas Cage out of this preference. The protagonist of the films was not even warned for the series, as he commented in GQ magazine: “The phone has stopped ringing”However, the actor believes it’s a good time to pick up the saga: “I thought, ‘What do you mean we’re not going to do ‘The Quest 3’? It’s been 14 years, why not?”
Despite not having Cage for the series, as yes, he did it with other cast members from the movies (Harvey Keitel & Justin Bartha) Bruckheimer responded to the following on Reddit when asked about his future plans with the lead: “I love Nicolas, he’s a brilliant actor, we are currently working on a script for ‘The Search 3’.
Series and film aside, What they included Cage for is the game based on the first installment: “We said we’d make another ‘The Search’ film […] At the same time we were developing the show with Cage, which is still ongoing.”Bruckheimer said in the interview.
Nicolas Cage’s Little Thorn
The bitter feeling Cage has from not being warned for the series contrasts with how sweet it would be to play Benjamin Gates again. However, in the interview for GQ, the actor confessed how difficult it can be to work with production giants like Disney+: “When I say there are people in Hollywood who agree, I’m not referring to Jerry [Bruckheimer]. I’m talking about Disney. I’m like an ocean liner. Once they point in a certain direction, you have to have a million tugs to try and turn them around.”. Despite this, the actor “have fun” making movies and discovering characters he never thought of playing like Robin in ‘Pig’ or even himself in his latest film ‘The Unbearable Weight of a Colossal Talent’ by American director Tom Gormican.
